Cheer Coach Must-Haves: Editable + Digital Tools to Stay Organized, Lead Your Team and Say Goodbye to Drama!

Coaching cheer can be a daunting task whether it is your first season or you are an experienced coach.  Cheerleading is more than pom-poms, bows and being on the sidelines and it takes a lot to get a team performing at a high level while also focusing on building character and sportsmanship.  Being a cheerleader goes beyond being a skilled athlete and managing the demands of building skills, creating a cohesive program and promoting personal growth is a lot for any coach to take on.

Throughout my first year I fine-tuned some tools I use to ensure that my season runs smooth so that my girls can focus on doing what they love and having fun.  Check out my cheerleading coach resources + tools which are all fully editable and customizable for your team.  Reuse them each year, they can carry over to every season which - trust me, makes your life a lot easier!

πŸ† 1. Cheerleading Digital Templates for Practice & Game Plans

This is a key, go-to tool for the entire cheer season.  Each week I would make copies of my existing Google Doc and update them for this weeks practice(s) and game(s) before sending them out to the team.  I quickly learned that this communication was critical.  My cheerleaders had less questions, the parents had all of the information they needed and I had clear communication between captains, coaches and managers.

Each team is different but my struggles at the start of the season were having my managers be able to access the music we needed on the field for band dances, half-time and for end-of-the-quarter dances.  I also had a lot of push back from my team regarding practice and game day attire / appearance (makeup, glitter, bows, etc.).  Having these plans in my weekly emails helped communicate not only to the cheerleaders, but to parents about the team expectations and I saw a tremendous increase in girls arriving prepared and LESS COMPLAINING.

    What’s included:

    • Game Day Plan Template

    • Practice Itinerary Template

    • Stunt & Dance Formation Templates

    • Communication Guides for Captains, Parents, and Managers

    Why coaches love it:
    ✅ Saves time planning
✅ Keeps everyone on the same page
✅ Customizable and reusable season after season

No more scrambling for music cues or second-guessing who's in which stunt group. With these templates, you’ll lead with confidence—and without chaos.

    2. High School Cheerleading Athlete Contract

Oh do I wish I started out last season with a contract from the start.  Whether the issues are with girl drama, social media, stunt groups, friendship or other conflicts, this editable cheerleading contract outlines clear expectations.   This ready-to-use athlete contract outlines expectations for behavior, leadership, sportsmanship and includes the definition of what it means to be a cheerleader.  Cheerleaders are an important role in the school community and any drama extends beyond just the team.

    Key features:

    • Covers rules, coach respect, attitude, and academics

    • Written in teen-friendly, professional language

    • Editable Google Doc + print-ready PDF

    • Perfect for tryouts, first practices, or handbooks

Bonus: The contract encourages cheerleaders to take ownership of conflict resolution and team culture, helping eliminate drama before it starts.

    3. Cheerleading Tryouts Score Sheet | Digital + Autoscoring! | Editable Google Form

Say goodbye to counting papers and sitting on the floor to tally scores after cheerleading tryouts.  Not only does this Google Form automatically total each cheerleaders score, eliminating the need for hand counting - it ensures fair and consistent scoring across all tryout performances.  Built into this tool is a key/rubric to rate each cheerleader based on specific cheer, dance, jump and tumbling criteria.  There is also measures for personality - leadership qualities, character and sportsmanship that each cheerleader should display.

Coaches that need to make cuts and assign cheerleaders to Freshman, JV and Varsity teams will greatly benefit from this form as you can quickly tier cheerleaders based on their score bands or specific criteria you need to make each team.

    Why this is a game-changer:
⭐ Judges use the same form = consistent scoring
    ⭐ Auto-calculates totals—no math mistakes
⭐ Covers all key skills: cheers, dance, jumps, tumbling, stunting
⭐ Transparent and easy to reuse each year

Perfect for coaches who want a tryout process that’s organized, fair, and totally paperless.

Final Thoughts for The Best Season...

These coaching resources saved me so much time, stress, and sanity.  I was able to focus on building my team culture, nailing routines and actually cheering rather than sifting through all of the chaos.  Whether you are managing a sideline squad or competitive team, these resources help you focus less on the noise and more on leading your athletes into a great cheerleading season.

Do you coach basketball cheer?  No problem - the same templates can be used and honestly the only thing you may need to change on the template is the football emoji (to a basketball) and the word sideline to stands!

I got you covered!  I hope you have the best season yet!  Go Team!!!
